There is merit to varying the ways in which a student will work with code. For some students, they will learn best simply by writing their own code and running it until it works as desired. Other students will use programming examples and manipulate various components to see how their changes affect the behavior of the program. For all students, it is worthwhile to have them work with code on paper and without the benefit of technology. This particular misconception is an example of where this can be a helpful strategy.
