In the introduction, we discussed a simple example about how form input can be handled by PHP. However, it has some shortcomings, such as the fact that the form inputs are not checked. This example also uses a built-in PHP function, htmlspecialchars, to convert any HTML that may have been entered into the form to special characters; this provides security from hackers who might attempt to exploit the form.
